Cool days are approaching.  Inevitably, this means more layers, more textures, and more opportunity to introduce new pieces to your wardrobe. (Side note: some of you anons have been criticizing my lack of focus on “things that are actually affordable” lately.)  So today, I plan to kill two birds with one stone by introducing the soft jacket, a layer-friendly garment that is more also more wallet-friendly than any Savile Row tweed.

Soft jackets (like the one in the photo above) are jackets that are typically cut from a lightweight jersey fabric made from cotton, wool, or another synthetic fiber.  Similar to that of a sweatshirt, the jacket’s material has a slight stretch that makes it as comfortable as it is versatile.  Easily paired with a blue button down oxford and a snubby tie for a dressier look, or with a v-neck sweater and a pair of jeans for a more casual look, the soft jacket is a sartorial chameleon, and a worthy investment for those who looking for a laid-back alternative to a blazer or sportcoat.
